Ay Yi Yi!!

Boy has it been an eventful few days since I last blogged.

We picked up Alex's son, so he could spend the summer with us. My car is a piece-o-crap, so my friend Kendyl was kind enough to loan us her car....Thanks Keni!

It has been quite the adventure having a 6 year old little boy running around the house. It has most definitely been an eye opener on many levels. I love this little boy to death, but it is definitely hard becoming somewhat of a mother figure overnight (to a 6 year old no less). Babies and toddlers are fun and cuddly (for the most part)...I've been around many of both. Once they hit a certain age though, the attitude starts coming out. He doesn't have a BAD attitude, but he's not really use to rules, so he doesn't like having to follow them now. He also is disgustingly addicted to video games (thanks a lot to the generational gap, I assume). You have to stand your ground, because kids this age (and I'm sure many other ages) like to push buttons and play parents against one another. Happens EVERYDAY in our household. Other than that, life of a 6 year old is pretty interesting. He eats ALL DAY long....it's like the never ending pit of a stomach. He only really wants to watch TV, but has fun playing outside when he's got stuff to do out there and people to do it with. He wants a new video game every other day, even though we don't allow that much video gaming to go on in our house. He only ever wants sweets..candy, jello, popsicles, etc. Also something that is limited with us. He will decide he doesn't like something to eat without trying it...but will say he's tried it, and "it's nasty". He doesn't like going to the rest room (and possibly missing anything at all) so he will wait until the last possible second to run and go potty. He likes to "race" to the car, even if he's the only one running. He likes to drink bath tub water (yuck). He likes to put on the water works when he doesn't get his way, and we just have to shrug it off, or he'll never learn. He likes to ask 1 trillion questions throughout the day. He's learning to sound out words, but if he can see the picture in the story he's reading, he will make up what he's reading based on the picture. He beats his toys up and likes to throw them around. He likes to also see how much he can destruct something before he gets in trouble (a boy much?). It is definitely a harder task then I think most people realize to have children, especially this age. Too interesting.

Aside from our newly adjusted life, Alex has been working at his new job, and I begin work next week. We're are so excited for the opportunities that were given to us, and we love having his son out here.

Make sure to check my recipe blog...I'm posting two new recipes! :)
